Electric Bike Conversions

There are lots of electric bike conversion kits on the market, we mainly use Cyclotricity and Yosepower kits, as they offer excellent quality and reliability for the price. There are a few different configurations you can choose depending on how you expect to use the bike. See below to learn more.

Electric Motor

There are 3 places you can put an electric motor on your bicycle, the front wheel, mid-drive and the rear wheel. Each have their own pros and cons.

Front Wheel

Front wheel - Lightest and well disquised, this is the cheapest and simplest option, and is perfect if you're riding mainly on paved surfaces that aren't too steep.

mid drive.png

Mid-Drive

Mid-drive - The best of both worlds and more. It is lightweight and inconspicuous. It keeps the weight central and low, and also allows the motor to use your gears, which means it can help you up the steepest of hills.  Perfect for those wanting to use their bikes offroad.

Rear Wheel

Rear wheel - This option will allow you to get a bit more traction on steep and slippery surfaces, but will be heavier and more obvious.

Battery

There are 2 places you can have the battery on your conversion, in the frame or on a rack. Then there is also the battery capacity to consider. Take a look at the options below.

rack battery.png

Rack Battery

+ Inconspicous and practical, the rack can be used for panniers and cargo

+ When paired with a front wheel motor, the fact that it is an E-bike is barely noticeable

- Weight is higher up and towards the rear, making it not as well balanced as a frame battery

Frame Battery

+ Weight is lower down and central, giving the bike a more balanced feel

- Battery is in plain view, will be obvious it is an E-bike

- Battery is fixed to a bottle cage mount, and is bigger than a bottle, so will likely loose functionality of both bottle cages (more can be added).

36V/15.6AH - 40-45 Miles

36V/17.4AH - 45-50 Miles

This is based on a 75KG rider, on mostly smooth flat terrain, with minimal stop starts.

Other Parts

There are a few other parts that make up the conversion, please see below.

LED display.png

LED or LCD Display

Most of our bikes come with a simple LED display, indicating the charge remaining, but you can also purchase an LED display which will give you more information.

Pedal assist sensor.png

Pedal Assist Sensor

All of our bikes come with a pedal assist sensor, this allows the E-bike to sense when you are pedalling and provide assistance at the correct times.  This makes for a much more natural feeling bike than throttle only E-bikes.

controller.png

Controller

This is the brains of the system, and is usually hidden either in the battery, LCD display, or a small bag on the frame.
